PepsiCo is now planning to stop distribution and selling of the company’s sugary drinks in schools worldwide. This plan came after they saw the success of certain programs in United States aimed at decreasing the rate of childhood obesity.
By 2012, these sugary drinks are expected to vanish from canteens in at least 200 countries. This is an action plan not expected from any soda producer.
Students worldwide should then expect that by 2012, they won’t be seeing much of Pepsi products with much fat and sugar. Diet Pepsi is expected to still appear in secondary school canteens while sports drinks would only be sold to students who are into physical activities especially athletes.
Some of the products expected to still appear in school canteens include Gatorade sports drinks and Tropicana juice drinks.
Expect 7Up, Mountain Dew and Pepsi to vanish from school canteens.
What does Coca-Cola have to say?
For the competitor, Coca-Cola stands on safe zone–the company will not sell any of its products worldwide only if the school districts and or parents demand such action plan.
