The weekend’s two wide releases Inception and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice both scored a B+ with audiences but still ended the weekend with markedly different results. The mind-bendy heist film Inception from director Christopher Nolan generated an estimated $60.4 million for its opening frame, a great success considering the complicated plot line and the vague marketing campaign.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a father longing to be reunited with his children and who specializes in subconscious security. It has received generally positive reviews.

Nolan’s latest film scored a B+ rating in CinemaScore. It is scheduled to be released in IMAX theaters for the rest of the summer even though it is not a 3D movie. The film budget is 160 million dollars.

Landing on the second spot is last week’s front-runner Despicable Me with 32.7 million dollars while newcomer The Sorcerer’s Apprentice only took 17.3 million dollars which is enough for third place. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is in fourth while Toy Story 3 rounds up the top five.

Incidentally, Apprentice, which starred Nicholas Cage, also scored a B+ rating but, as shown in the figures above, is failing to attract moviegoers. It has a budget of 150 million dollars.
