Dial-up internet connections have declined with approximately 90% of internet consumers having a bias towards high-speed internet connections.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics released the results of their recent Internet Activity Survey that tabulated the preference of Australians in terms of internet connections from June to December 2009. The results showed that many Australians gave up their dial-up connections. This is obvious in the decline from 1,286,000 dial-up users in 2008 to just 927,000 at the latter part of 2009.
While dial-up connections went low, the broadband connections went up with more than two million users added in 2009. From 6,639,000 broadband users, the number grew to 8,184,000.
From among the choices for broadband connections, DSL proved to be the most used technology. From the recent survey done, 51 per cent of non-dial up users were using DSL connections. In June 2009 alone, the DSL user make up the 57 per cent.
