The execution of three convicted Filipinos, who were convicted for drug trafficking in China, was carried out today Wednesday, March 30,2011, in a confirmation stated by Philippine Vice President Jejomar Binay.

“I just want to inform you that our three compatriots have been executed,” Binay told ABS-CBN news, citing information from the Philippine foreign affairs ministry.

Chinese authorities carried out the execution of Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, Ramon Credo and Elizabeth Batain today via lethal injection.

The three Pinoys were arrested separately in 2008 for carrying at least 4 kilograms of heroin and was convicted in 2009. China has been known for strictly imposing their law regarding drugs. Possession and smuggling of more than 50 grams of heroin or other known drugs is punishable by death in China.

Though the Philippine government had taken every available opportunity to appeal to the authorities of China for clemency in their cases, to which the Chinese government responded with a postponement of the execution, but still the sentence was imposed by the by the courts of the People’s Republic of China this morning, according to Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.

The whole Filipino nation sympathized with the families of the executed Filipinos.

A 17-year-old boy allegedly hijacked a facebook birthday party invitation originally posted by an Australian teen named Jess, which resulted in 214,000 people accepting the invitation to the party at her house on March 26.

Jess who’s celebrating her 16th birthday intended to invite only the students in her grade, but told her guests that they could bring friends since she didn’t have time to invite everyone. She even encouraged others to invite friends on her behalf saying that it was an “open house party as long as it doesn’t get out of hand.” The invitation, which went viral, had her address on it.

A number of the postings on the invitation’s wall used the Anonymous symbol in them, which appeared to have been hijacked by members of the notorious chat group Anonymous, resulting in it going viral worldwide.

The schoolgirl immediately reported that the site had been hijacked to the police. According to Jess’ father, she had invited a few friends, but didn’t know how to use the privacy settings on Facebook to stop strangers from seeing her party invite. “She was just anxious about whether anyone would show up to her birthday,” he said.

Pop star turned activist is rallying her 8.8 million Twitter fans to donate whatever they can afford to help the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on Friday. In her effort to help the calamity victims, Lady Gaga personally designed a special white wristband with red lettering that reads “We Pray For Japan.”

In just three days of release, the Lady Gaga Wristband has already raised more than a quarter of a million to help the Asian nation bounce back from the 9.0-magnitude quake and devastating tsunami that has death tolls rising into the tens of thousands.

Gaga’s white-and-red wristband features her signature claw, as well as the phrase “We Pray for Japan,” written in both English and Japanese. The wristband costs just $5, but consumers are invited to “choose their price” and are encouraged to donate whatever they can afford, with proceeds going directly to efforts to help the victims of the natural disaster.

It was announced earlier this week that users can now rent and stream movies on Facebook , and today it’s already possible to watch a free live baseball game on the social networking site.

According to a source, Major League Baseball (MLB) is experimenting with video stream content on Facebook. Baseball fans can now watch a spring training game live on MLB’s Facebook Page for free. One game will be broadcast live on the social network each day through the end of spring training in April, including the regular season.

MLB is experimenting on free games to drive new subscribers to MLB.TV, which lets users watch regular season games and select spring training games online or on a mobile device for $20 and $25 a month, and $120 for a full season-long subscription to MLB.TV’s digital video package. The games are free, but you can’t expand the video beyond the small box in the Facebook News Feed. This free video stream promotion is supposed to test Facebook’s promotional power.

Bob Bowman, CEO of MLB.com, pro baseball’s digital operation in an interview said, “What we’re trying to do is figure out who these fans are, whether they like it, and whether they share it.”

Toyota motors, one of Japan’s largest carmakers, may cut down the production of vehicles effectively taking 40,000 from its planned production after Japan’s strongest earthquake damaged factories and crippled nuclear power plants that caused electricity shortages.

Toyota recently closed 12 plants in Japan after the devastation brought about by the Tsunami earlier this week. Businesses voluntarily limited their electricity consumption and supply chains were disrupted in the wake of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The manufacturer’s profit will be cut by 6 billion yen ($72 million) for each day of lost operations in Japan, while Nissan Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. may each lose 2 billion yen a day, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. estimated.

“Not only is the struck region one of our production bases, those directly hit and vastly affected include our dealers, suppliers and numerous other partners,” Toyota President Akio Toyoda said in a statement on the Toyota City, Japan-based company’s website.

According to reports, Toyota fell 4.2 percent to 3,170 yen as of 9:39 a.m. in Tokyo trading, extending its two-day drop to 12 percent. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average declined 5.6 percent after plunging 6.2 percent yesterday. Nissan slid 2.9 percent, and Honda lost 3.3 percent.

The latest Apple tablet, the iPad 2 is projected to sell nearly a million units on its first weekend. Apple on Monday said demand for the iPad 2 during its first weekend on sale was “amazing.”  “Demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing”. “We are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” according to Apple’s spokesperson Trudy Muller.

Based on initial reports, the iPad 2 went on sale at 5:00 pm local time on Friday and by the end of the weekend, there wasn’t an iPad 2 to be found anywhere in the country.

If analysts are correct, the next-generation tablet would trump the performance of its predecessor, the first-gen iPad, which needed close to a month to breach the one-million sales mark. In a survey conducted by Piper Jaffray, it shows that 70 percent of buyers were first-time owners of the popular Apple tablet.

Retailer Best Buy said some of its stores ran out of the hottest tablet in town within minutes. The iPad 2, which is thinner and faster than its predecessor, is expected to dominate the tablet market.

In line with the circulating text messages and facebook stat alerts about the dangers of radiation effects of the Fukushima Power Plant Explosion reaching the Philippines, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) issued this official statement.

Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo assured the public that, based on DOST’s Philippine Nuclear Research Institute’s routine daily radiation monitoring in the environment, the level of radiation in the environment in the country has remained stable since the Fukushima incident in Japan.

“DOST-PNRI is closely monitoring developments through its 24-hour link up with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Sec. Montejo said.

No increase in radiation level means that, as of the moment, there are no immediate effects of the March 11 Fukushima nuclear power plant explosion to the Philippines.

DOST-PNRI Director Alumanda dela Rosa also cited a plume trajectory study provided by DOST-PAGASA showing that the plume from the site of the incident at Fukushima will not pass the Philippine territory as of March 14, 2011.

“The direction of the smoke appears to go away from the direction of the country,” Dr. dela Rosa explained. “The smoke is carried away by the northeast monsoon (amihan).”

According to DOST-PAGASA, the direction of the wind will continue to be stable until about May 15 and there is no imminent sign of weather disturbance that may affect the current wind direction.
