Facebook, one of the leading social networking websites on the internet, has now reached more than 400 million users worldwide. CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in a keynote address during the company’s conference for third-party developers in San Francisco on Wednesday, unveiled their plans of spreading the company across the web as well as enriching the quality of the user’s social experience with new features that will allow users to bring some of their interactions with Facebook friends to the sites they visit.
In his keynote speech Zuckerberg described the new features as the most “transformative thing that we have ever done for the Web.” He also wrote a blog post about the new features Facebook has been developing saying, “We are making it so all Web sites can work together to build a more comprehensive map of connections and create better, more social experiences for everyone.”
Some of the new features being introduced in Facebook are the “Like” button, which allows users to indicate what they like, be it a photograph, an article, an artist or a celebrity, or a product, and “Plug-ins” that are integrated on websites that will allow a user/visitor to see which of his or her Facebook friends have visited the site and what articles have they liked. As long as you’re logged into Facebook, the plug-in will will automatically detect your presence when you visit a particular site.
