British actor Andrew Garfield, recently chosen to be the next teen Peter Parker in the Spider-Man reboot will reportedly earn just $500,000 to replace Tobey Maguire in the Sony/Marvel Comics blockbuster franchise.
Garfield is said to have snagged the part after studio executives for Sony were impressed by his performance in David Fincher’s upcoming Facebook drama The Social Network. He also appeared alongside Verne Troyer and Heath Ledger in the late Oscar winner’s (Ledger) final film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
But impressive screen performances weren’t enough to snag Garfield a multimillion deal to become the next Spider-Man.
We hear Garfield — a virtual unknown theater actor — has been contracted for three sequels in the role of the awkward superhero, with his salary expected to rise to $1 million for the second movie and $2 million for the third.
The same contract terms were presented to the other finalists for the lead role, Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman, Frank Dillane and Michael Angarano.
